Celebrate The University of Akron's 100th Homecoming with a commemorative shirt that is representative of UA's history!
The artwork of this throw-back style tee, includes the grandstands of Akron Memorial Stadium at Buchtel Field which opened in 1923 between Brown and Kling St. The image of Zippy kicking a football represents the original logo for Akron football after the mascot was created in 1953. "Zip go the Zippers" is a nod to our original athletic nickname, the "Zippers". The name was submitted in a contest by student Margaret Hamlin in 1927 to pay homage to a popular rubber overshoe with zippers manufactured by The B.F. Goodrich Company. The slogan is still used today in the UA fight song.
With two styles available, this shirt is the perfect addition to your "game day" collection! - Unisex Cotton Ringer Tee (extra soft, 100% cotton) - we recommend sizing up on this shirt, as it may shrink. - Women's Game V- Neck (60/40 combed ring spun cotton/poly with distressed printed stripes on each sleeve.
